Finished Object : Harvest Cardigan

This is official! I finished my first cardigan : The Harvest Cardigan by Tin Can Knits a pattern from the Simple Collection. Thanks to the very detailed explanation on the pattern, this was an easy and very enjoyable knit. I decided to add 4 button holes on the front so it can be closed completely. Regarding the buttons, after searching for a couple of hours on Etsy without finding anything I liked, my husband suggested : ” Well, if you can’t find them, why don’t you make them?” Then I thought why not giving it a try? I looked into my old stash of polymere clay (Fimo-type) to check if it was still useable and if I could find some colors that could match the color of the cardigan. After playing a bit with the clay, I ended up with a set of 4 colorful buttons.

I am pretty pleased with the result. The color mix goes well with the color of the yarn and they seem solid enough to last for a while. Before I attached the buttons, I blocked the cardigan with some Eucalan non-rinse wash, I tried the unscented version this time and it is really nice. Even if the yarn is acrylic, I find that blocking the garment erases the little bumps and evens out the aspect of the stitches.

Now, some live photos of the cardigan on my model. She is usually very picky with the fit of the garments so I am really satisfied she is happy with this one 🙂
